Useful Information
Gulf Islands National Seashore

At over 137,458 acres, the Gulf Islands National Seashore is the country's largest
seashore. It houses bays, sounds and barrier islands and stretches along the Florida
and Mississippi coastlines.
Visitors can explore the many
historic forts on the grounds
such as Fort Pickens on the
western side of the Santa
Rosa Island.  It is also
entertaining to take a ride on
the ferry to explore the almost
110,000 acres of water
included in the park's total
area.

It's very likely that you will spot
wild dolphins in the water.
They are very curious and
playful and  they like to follow
a boat, surfing around as if
wanting to get your attention.
There are more than 35 miles of hiking trails in the Florida District. It is a great place for nature lovers and
especially bird watchers.

Other activities this area  include camping, fishing, boating, and swimming.

A park map is available on their website and includes designated trails.

The park is open year-round, but some of the areas close at sunset, so check the website for detailed
information:
