Big Cypress National Preserve
Big Cypress National Preserve is a little-known neighbor of the Everglades. The park
protects almost a quarter of a million acres of Big Cypress Swamp, which gets its
name from the massive quantity of cypress trees that grow here.

There are two scenic drives within Preserve.
When weather gets hot and humid, this is good way to
observe wildlife from the comfort of your car.
You may spot here bald eagles, herons, snowy egrets
and of course, alligators.
This is a great place to try to catch a glimpse of the
famous Florida panther.
Hiking includes the last leg of the Florida Trail, which
begins at the Gulf Islands National Seashore and
stretches down the coast.
Other activities include Off-Road Vehicle riding (ORV
permit required), and hunting. Permits may be acquired
in the Visitor Center.
